We have Nod32 installed on all our laptops. I'm having the exact same issues reported in this forum, except that we don't run any Symantec products. So the problem doesn't seem to be in the browser, it's something at the system level that is stopping the laptop from being able to connect via port 80.Īnyone have any insight/suggestions with this added info? If I try to connect to the same system from my laptop console window, I get an error that the connection failed. If I connect from my other system, my console window clears and I can enter HTTP commands and get HTTP responses. I also was able to confirm that using telnet to connect to port 80 (HTTP) on webservers that are valid fails on the laptop (but works on my other system). but even after I registered for the product and used it to clean the Registry, I still have the problem. I also found one pay-for-use registry cleaner that found errors related to DLLs/COMs (none of the freeware products found those problems).

all of the freeware ones seemed to find things like entries I didn't need, but they weren't able to solve the problem. I also found some entries in the system log of my laptop about errors encountered with the Registry and that applications using the Registry (which seems to be just about everything) could experience errors.

I did find some references in other areas of the web about others who have had similar (although I'm not sure if it's the same) issue and that it was related to corruption of the Windows Registry.

Has anyone seen an issue like this or know what could be causing this situation (or how to resolve it)? But IE is still installed and is still reporting that the browser can't connect to the internet (even though the rest of the laptop seems to be able to connect without any issues). I've uninstalled Mozilla (a new version of Mozilla was reported installed in the last few days, so I uninstalled it in case it was causing a problem). I've restarted the laptop several times (full shutdown and restart, not just going to sleep). I've verified that Parental Controls are not enabled. I've tried turning off Windows Firewall, Pop-up Blocker, Phishing controls. I've tried reseting Internet Explorer to default settings. I've tried installing all updates available via Windows Update. The same pages that are reported "down" can be reached by Ping and can be accessed by other systems. No matter what web page I try to access, the browser displays the page that reports a problem with internet connectivity (internet connection may be down, URL may be mistyped, site may be down). However, both Internet Explorer (version 7) and Mozilla act like the laptop isn't connected to the internet. I can ping web pages from a command window and applications/utilities that use the internet seem to work fine (Windows Update, Mozilla Thunderbird Email, online game updater, etc.). The laptop seems to have internet connectivity.

no software or changes have been made to the system by us, although the automatic updates have installed an update for Vista and an update for Windows Defender. Everything was working until a 2-3 days ago. I have a new problem with web browser connectivity on a HP Pavillion laptop running Vista.
